By Suggestion: Ask Me Anything!!!

Over a delicious lunch at an amazing Irish pub recently, my brilliant friend and fellow entrepreneur, Ellie Davis, suggested that I add an “Ask Me Anything” section to my newsletter. I love the idea! I formally invite you to email your questions for the newsletter to AskMeAnything@krisfleming.net. Your name will not be included in the newsletter without your express permission.

Q: “I am embarrassed to share this, but I am deeply struggling and have been for years. We have so much debt that we have just been paying the minimum payments for a really long time. I am overwhelmed. What should I do?”
-A Woman Entrepreneur

A: While I am not a certified debt counselor, I have a LOT of experience with this. The vast majority of publications and materials aimed at women about money expressly state or imply that women are overspenders; we need to use coupons, make more thoughtful spending decisions, and stop buying all that fancy coffee. Not only is it entirely factually inaccurate that women are generally overspenders, but, my friends, there is absolutely no way that we are going to coupon and fancy-coffee-deprive ourselves into millionaire status. This is ridiculous!

While it is absolutely necessary to manage our money carefully and make sure that we know where we stand financially, increasing income is a tremendous factor in attaining generational wealth!

I invite the questioner to schedule a Discovery Meeting with me to dig into the details of her situation and strategize some tactics to bring her both short-term relief and long-term prosperity. I am genuinely excited to work together with a primary focus of growing business revenue, a secondary focus of managing that revenue well, and making sure that we set up some processes to keep the business expansion from eating her alive in the end!

Q: “Did I hear that you served on State Senator [Unnamed]’s Advisory Committee? Why would you do that? I thought you hated their platform?”
-A Kris Fleming Critic
(I know. I’m just as shocked as you are, but I do have critics.)

A: That is absolutely correct. I served on Senator [Unnamed]’s Advisory Committee for several years because I was honored to be invited to serve my community in this manner, and also BECAUSE I despise the platform. Many leaders are surrounded by bobbleheaded people: yes, yes, yes, yes. I used the opportunity to ensure that I respectfully and graciously brought a different perspective to the table. I was nearly always the only dissenter in the room.  What benefit is an Advisory Committee that only says, “yes?” How can any of us make a difference if we only deeply and respectfully communicate to the people with whom we agree? As challenging as it might be, given the opportunity to do so or similar again, I would not hesitate. I encourage you to do the same.

Is there anything I can do to support you and your current efforts?
